Jonah.png

Jonah

  • Chestnut Haflinger

  • Gelding

  • 14 Hands

  • DOB: Approximately 2006

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2015

Jonah is a former Amish cart horse, and was donated to the Ranch in 2015. Jonah is probably the most versatile horse at the Ranch. He does it all! His short, but thick stature makes him especially ideal for our Freedom Reins program, in which he carries our special needs kiddos with the utmost care.

Orion.png

Orion

  • Chestnut Overo American Paint Horse

  • Gelding

  • 15 hands

  • DOB: Approximately 2002

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2017

Orion’s owner had more horses than she had time to ride, and believed he had the steady temperament to do the work of loving kids at the Ranch. She was absolutely right! He is a willing reliable friend to our crew.

Jed.png

Jed (Jedidah)

  • QH/Arabian?

  • Gelding

  • 15 Hands

  • DOB: 2004

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2018

Jed’s owner was having trouble keeping weight on him and he had a severe case of rain rot. As a retired barrel horse, in the arena, his instinct is “speed,” but he is learning a more laid-back approach to life. He loves people and is kind and willing-- as sweet as they come!

Dahlia.png

Dahlia

  • Bay American Quarter Horse

  • Mare

  • 14.3 Hands

  • DOB: 2012

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2024

Dahlia was a gift to the ranch. With an aging herd, we were in need of a younger horse for our programs, and Dahlia is a great addition. With her sweet temperament, lovely looks & kind eye, she is quickly becoming a favorite at the ranch.

Harley.png

Harley

  • Palomino Quarter Horse

  • Gelding

  • 14.2 Hands

  • DOB: 2006

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2024

Harley is a former lesson horse that was purchased by a family who fell in love with his sweet, steady temperament. When they realized he was not being used as much as they had hoped, they thought of Refuge. While we have been looking to build a younger herd, Harley is such a seasoned, well trained boy, that we were thrilled to add him to our herd. He is a gentle, wonderful teacher, & a reliable w/t/c horse for both our beginning riders as well as those who’ve been in the saddle for years.

Jackson.png

Jackson

  • Bay Appaloosa/White Blanket

  • Gelding

  • 14.3 Hands

  • DOB: Approximately 1995

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2008

Jackson was the very first horse to call Refuge Ranch home! This sweet gelding has taught countless kids and adults the fundamentals of riding… but far more importantly, he has been a faithful, steadying friend to so many. Despite an ornery streak, or perhaps in part because of it, he is beloved by kids and adults alike. Even in his senior years, he is still loving and serving kids with his unique blend of stubborn kindness.

Alaya.png

Alaya

  • Bay and White  Miniature Horse

  • Mare

  • 9.3 Hands

mocha big.jpg

Mocha

  • Mare

  • 13 hands

  • DOB: 2003

winston.jpeg

Winston

  • Mini Donkey

  • Gelding

  • 9 hands

  • DOB: 2020

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2026

Fun fact about Winston, when he was younger, his ears got frostbite so he has short, horselike ears. He is a mischievous little guy who loves to follow you around the paddock - especially if you have treats!

Nutmeg.png

Nutmeg

  • 30"

  • DOB: 2015

  • Arrival at Refuge: 2025

Nutmeg, with her crazy hair and her sweet and sassy demeanor is the perfect Ranch Ambassador! She has lots of opinions about everything in life and is not afraid to share them...and she brings joy to everyone who meets her!

titus.jpg

Titus

  • Donkey

  • Gelding

  • DOB: Approx 2000

  • Arrived at Refuge: 2008

A good samaritan reached out to us for Titus to come live at Refuge. He had been injured at his previous home and neglected. When he walked off the trailer, his legs were bare and scalded from standing in feces and urine. His hooves were so overgrown that they curled up in an arc like elf slippers. It took many years to earn Titus' trust to take care of him without sedation.  Today, he adores having his ears scratched and loves to be loved, but he will take you out at a gate if he thinks he can get to the patch of green grass outside.
