The program serves participants ages 5 to 21 with a wide range of needs, including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD and other disabilities.

 

Each session is individualized around the participant’s abilities, needs and goals. Time at the Ranch may include grooming, riding and simply connecting with a horse while building responsibility, confidence and trust.

 

Mounted activities focus on balance, strength, coordination and following directions through fun, engaging exercises on horseback. Participants are supported by trained volunteers, including side-walkers, to help ensure a safe and encouraging experience.

 

Freedom Reins is designed to support both physical and emotional growth while giving participants the joy and connection that can come from working with horses. Like all Refuge Ranch programs, Freedom Reins is offered free of charge to participating families.
