REFUGE RANCH
These 2 horses were siezed by Douglas County Animal Control.
They were being kept in a dry lot and fed grass clippings.  By
the time they siezed them, the filly was so weak she had to be
transported in a sling.  Both were covered in rain rot and
nothing more than skin and bones.

Though they have obviously had little to no training, they are
proving to be incredibly sweet and personable!  It will be a while
before they are available for adoption, but we would be happy
to take applications on them now!
Canyon
Canyon is a 6 year old Standardbred, 14hh, bay gelding with one white sock.  He is sweet, just a little
stubborn, but loves to interact.  As far as we know, he is not broke, and obviously we are going to give
him a little time to settle in and put some weight on before we start him.  He is working on basic ground
manners:  backing up, dropping head for haltering, picking up and holding feet nicely.  He's doing
wonderful!

We were told he was a nightmare to haul, but when we picked him up, he hopped on the trailer as if he'd
done it a hundred times before and was absolutely perfect for the 2 hour trailer ride.
Liberty
Liberty is a yearling filly.  She is a tiny thing and has suuuuch a sweet face.  Again, who knows how full of it
she'll be when she puts on some weight and is feeling better, but she stood for the ferrier like a champ and
right now, at least, is an absolute doll.  She is pretty cow hocked, but sound.   It is nearly impossible to get a
picture of her with her head up.  She never stops eating! Unless she's coming to greet you at the stall door to
see if you have something else for her to eat!

Just as loving and interested in interacting with people as Canyon.  She is going to make a wonderful, in your
pocket companion!
Check back often for updates on their
progress!  For more information on
